Everything you need to know

A GreenFeed® Growing System is an aeroponic growing system that generates highly nutritious (21% protein) animal feed on a daily basis for all your livestock farming needs.

All Greenfeed® Growing Units supplied by Vertical Growing Systems (SA) are isolated and weatherproof which include product characteristics such as hygienic finishes, strength and durability. GreenFeed® Growing Systems have standard models available as well as custom designed aeroponic Growing Systems to fit the need of the individual farming operations.
As the Client you are required to guarantee a water supply, electrical power connection, cement slab and Feed grade Barley seed to make the grow room operational.

GreenFeed® Growing Systems are ideal for first-time growers with medium-size livestockunits who need to increase livestock numbers but do not have the available land or quality of grazing to support the needs of the herd.

Vertical Growing Systems (SA) (Pty) Ltd uses aeroponics in the process of growing barley/oats or other animal sprouting feeds. Aeroponics is the process of growing plants in an air or mist environment without the use of soil or an aggregate medium. Aeroponic culture differs from both conventional hydroponics and in-vitro (plant tissue culture) growing. Unlike hydroponics, which uses water as a growing medium and essential mineral to sustain plant growth, aeroponics is conducted without a growing medium. Because water is sometimes used in aeroponics to transmit nutrients, it is sometimes considered a type of hydroponics.

Aeroponic crop production is not a novel practice. Even as far back as 80 years ago, Great Britain’s agriculturalists practiced the ‘crop-a-day’ culture. The highly nutritious, vitamin- and mineral-rich sprouted forage was fed to various livestock and birds. (Harris, 1992)

For every 1 kg of seed, 6.2 to 7.2 kg of sprouted fodder is produced in only eight days

GreenFeed® Growing System Standard designed units supply a daily capacity of upto 5 Tons

The Units are SEMI-AUTOMATED UNIT, where all you need to do is remove the fodder, wash the trays and replenish the trays manually.

All other aspects of growing barley/oats green feed are addressed in this semi-automated computer-controlled environment, including water filtration, seed misting; grow-room hygiene; grow-light control; air-flow control; air purification; humidity and temperature control, cleaning and sterilisation controls.
